Present Perfect tense in German Language
The present perfect tense describe
the past event or action. In other way we can say this is recent past. This
tense is more used in spoken language in German.
Let’s see the structure of making sentences with Present prefect “das Perfekt”
in German Language.
Subject+Helping verb (sein/haben)+Object+3rd form of Main
Verb (PP2)
We always use one helping verb on 2nd position that can be
“sein” or “haben”. We need to check the main verb in sentence. If main verb
indicates that subject’s place is changing then we will use “sein”. In case of
no place change as per main verb, we will “haben” on 2nd position.
We also use main verb at the end of the sentence in 3rd form.
Let’s see some examples:
I have done Homework.
Ich habe die Hausaufgabe gemacht.
In above example, subject has completed this task at one place, he/she is not
moving or changing the place that’s why we have used “haben” second place. And
the main verb “machen” is at the end of the sentence in 3rd form.
She has gone to the doctor.
Sie ist zum Atzt gegangen.
In above example, subject’s place is changing. May be earlier he/she was
at home or else somewhere. But now she has gone to the doctor so subject’s
place has changed. That’s why we have used “sein” on 2nd position
and the main verb “gehen” stands at the end of the sentence in its 3rd form
“gegangen”.
