There are some basic rules for German reading. If a German learner pay a bit attention towards these rules he/she can read German language Properly within the first week itself.

“a” is read like “ah” example: Anton
“aa” is also read like “ah” example: Haar

Mean these two sounds are similar. See more combinations  below.

If “H” is in the middle of a word it does not sound means it is silent example: “Wohn”

In German language “ch” and “s” sounds are most important as they are often used.
“ch” gives generally KH sound if before “ch” is “a”, “o” and “u”. For example “Buch” is read Bakh.

But in Case of “S” we see what comes after “S” like “See”, “Sie” or “Sprechen” so the rule is if “S” is followed by any vowel (a,e,i,o,u) it gives Z sound like “Sie’ is read “Zee”

But if you find “Sch” in a word it will sound like “sh” example = Schul.

“Tsch” as a combination sounds like “ch” in German Language.
